How Much Do You Love Your Feet?
On August 17th you’ll have a chance to show your feet just how much you care about them because it’s National “I Love My Feet” Day! At NY Foot Health, we think it’s important to take this opportunity to think about all the ways your feet enhance your life, including:
Your feet take you wherever you want to go—it’s estimated that the average person walks 115,000 miles over the course of a lifetime, which would be equivalent to circling the globe four times!
The structures in your feet and toes are what enable you to stand, run, reach, squat, and jump, giving you the ability to perform all your daily tasks and fun extracurricular activities too.
Your feet keep the rest of your musculoskeletal system in alignment and allow all parts to function properly.
They act as an early warning system for your body by signaling many disorders and diseases by symptoms that first manifest in your feet.
Show Your Appreciation
There are several ways you can show gratitude to your feet by taking the best care of them possible. Below are some suggestions:
Buy good shoes—this is one of the biggest ways you can ensure the health of your feet. Make sure shoes fit properly and look for styles with adequate arch support, cushioned insoles, and roomy toe boxes.
Limit time in flip-flops and high heels—these footwear styles can harm your feet and result or contribute to a number of foot disorders, including bunions, hammertoes, and plantar fasciitis.
Don’t ignore foot and ankle pain—it’s a sign that something is wrong. Make an appointment promptly to have your feet evaluated by the podiatrist if you are experiencing discomfort. If you don’t currently have a foot doctor, now is another great way to show your feet you care. Our online directly can help you locate a podiatrist in your area.
Make foot-healthy healthy lifestyle choices—exercising regularly, maintaining an appropriate weight, and not smoking all have a direct and positive impact on your feet.
Treat your feet once in a while--a foot massage, new walking shoes or a relaxing pedicure are sure to be appreciated.
Take good care of your feet and they’ll reward you with many active years!
