New Ways to Make Your Holidays Merry and Bright
At NY Foot Health, we know many New Yorkers may be finding it difficult to stir up holiday cheer with all the stress of the COVID pandemic and restrictions on gatherings. This year calls for some new ideas for finding and sharing the holiday spirit. Consider some of the suggestions below:
Progressive Holiday Dinner—one way many of us envision the holidays are all together around the table sharing our favorite festive dishes. While large get-togethers with people outside your household may not be possible this season, consider a “virtual progressive” meal. If your family members are close by, split up your traditional menu and let each person/family prepare one beloved dish. Make enough for everyone, and the day before the dinner, drop off an appropriate portion at each house. When it’s time to eat, turn on the camera, and enjoy conversation and holiday foods together.
Gift Giving—this is truly a year to focusing on giving. Instead of shopping for everyone in the family or on your list of friends, draw names (use an online tool like DrawNames.com). Purchase one gift and then schedule a time to all be on Zoom together and take turns opening the gifts. Another option is to focus on gifts for others—many people are suffering currently. Contact your local social service agency for ways to help families in need, nursing home residents, health care workers, and others who are unable to celebrate the way they normally would this year.
Start a New Tradition—different doesn’t have to mean inferior! Bundling up for a night of stargazing (on Dec. 21st, the “Christmas Star” will be visible for the first time in 800 years!), creating a new signature family dish, or writing up a family history that you’ll add to each year are just a few ideas.
However, you choose to spend the holidays, be sure to keep up with all your good health habits for your feet and the rest of your body. If you have questions about foot or ankle conditions, contact us and subscribe to our free e-newsletter.
