Diabetic Patients: Do Not Wait to Treat Your Feet

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting everyone throughout the State of New York. Many podiatry practices remain open as they provide essential services. You are encouraged to schedule a visit with your podiatrist if you have an ulcer or wound. This reduces both visits to the ER or Urgent Care Centers, and, contact with others.

Here are some new protocols that podiatrists across the state are implementing to provide a safe environment for you during this time:

1. Tele-health services to reduce face-to-face visits.

2. When you have an appointment, call from the parking lot to let them know you have arrived. They will instruct you when to enter so they can show you directly to a treatment room. This way, you can eliminate being in the waiting room.

3. Your doctor's staff will wipe down the treatment room between every patient visit.

4. Wherever possible, patients should come into the office alone. If that's not possible, only one additional caregiver should enter the office.

5. Doctors have implemented a practice to take the temperature of staff members every day before they start work to ensure no one is working while ill.

6. Doctors are providing face masks and hand-sanitizer for staff and, where possible, for patients.

At NYFootHealth, we are here to provide information and resources for you. Visit our site to find a podiatrist near you. Let's work together to get through this safely.
