6 Ways to Tell Your Feet You Love Them
August 17th is National “I Love My Feet Day,” Here at NY Foot Health, we believe that’s an observance worth celebrating! All too often, feet get taken for granted. Below are six ways to show how grateful you are for these wonderful parts of your body and all they enable you to do!
1. Put them up. Elevating your feet at the end of the day is an excellent way to help reduce foot pain and swelling. It also helps with circulation.
2. Sit and soak. Fill a small tub with warm water. Add Epsom salts or a few drops of lavender or other essential oil, and let your feet soak for 15-20 minutes. Not only is this soothing, but it will also soften skin and allow you to gently push back the cuticles around your toes to help prevent ingrown nails.
3. Eat healthy. Your feet will appreciate this because getting enough nutrients like calcium and vitamin D will build stronger bones. Antioxidants found in many fruits and vegetables can help reduce inflammation, a common symptom of many foot problems. Maintaining a healthy weight reduces strain on your feet and decreases the risk for foot pain.
4. Buy new sneakers. When shoes get worn out, they don’t offer the necessary support, which can hurt feet and lead to an injury. Make sure there’s plenty of wiggle room for your toes. Put your new sneakers to work by exercising regularly for healthier, happier feet.
5. Get a massage. Hard-working feet will appreciate a relaxing massage to relieve muscle aches and pains. No time for a professional massage? Choose a rich, emollient moisturizer and rub it all over the tops and bottoms of your feet before bed.
6. Treat foot pain promptly. Don’t let your feet suffer unnecessarily. When they hurt, make an appointment with the podiatrist to find the source of the discomfort and get it treated. Putting off dealing with podiatric pain almost always leads to a more serious problem. Don’t currently have a podiatrist? Find one in our online directory.
