Put Your Feet on the “Nice” List

At NY Foot Health, we know it’s that time of year! As we get ready to celebrate Hannukah, Christmas, and Kwanza, you’re probably making your gift list and checking it twice. A new sweater for Aunt Helen, a tie for granddad, the latest video game for your child—but how about your feet? They have been good all year long and, in fact, are enabling you to do all the holiday rushing around you’re in the midst of now to make the season merry and bright. Below are a few gift ideas your feet will appreciate.

  • New Shoes-- Did you know walking and running shoes have a lifespan? Even if your shoes look fine on the outside, interior components and padding deteriorate, and shoes should be replaced after 300-500 miles and, of course, if they show visible signs of wear and tear. It will help protect your feet from pain and injury.

  • Anti-Fatigue Mat-- Will your holiday entail spending long hours standing in the kitchen prepping food and then doing dishes? Or are you a teacher, line worker, or in another profession that requires you to be on your feet in one spot for several hours a day? If so, an anti-fatigue mat might be just what’s on your feet’s wish list. These thick, cushiony mats make standing more comfortable, but more than that, they cause you to constantly make micro-adjustments” with your feet and ankles to maintain your balance. This prevents rigidity and muscle soreness.

  • A Super Emollient Night Cream— At this time of the year, the skin on your feet is probably like that of the rest of your body: dry, flaky, and maybe even itchy. Massaging a moisturizer into your feet each night before bed is a double gift—the massage feels great after a long day and your feet will hydrate while you sleep.

  • A Checkup with the Podiatrist--If you’re experiencing any foot or ankle pain or discomfort this season, don’t put off getting it checked out by the foot doctor. If you don’t have a podiatrist, finding one using our online directory will be the gift that keeps on giving for your feet. If your feet seem healthy, schedule an appointment in the new year for a full podiatric examination.
